About Plan Management

What is Plan Management and how does it work?

Plan Managers are qualified professionals who have been approved and registered by the NDIS to provide Plan Management services to NDIS Participants who have plan management included in their NDIS Plan.

Your Plan Manager acts as a financial intermediary ensuring that your service providers are paid promptly for the services that they provide to you. They also keep track of your budget and funding allocations and ensure that you are regularly updated on what funding has been exhausted and what is remaining, taking away the stress and worry of managing your funding and allowing you to focus on receiving great support to achieve your NDIS goals and live your best possible life.

what is plan management

There is no out-of-pocket expense to you for appointing a Plan Manager. As long as you have plan management included in your plan, then the NDIS covers the cost of your plan management. This is in addition to all of your support funding and is a set rate per month, regardless of the number of invoices processed on your behalf.

Managing your Funding

How your funding is managed is determined at the time of your planning meeting with your Local Area Co-ordinator or NDIS representative. Your plan will indicate how your funding allocations are managed and you will be locked into this management style, unless you seek a review to change the way your funding is managed. You can choose to have different funding allocations managed in a different way so you are not locked into one management style for your entire plan allocation.

Different Types of Plan Management

& Pros and Cons of each Style of Management

Plan Managed

Your supplier Invoices are processed and paid by your nominated NDIS registered Plan Manager.

Using a Plan Manager enables you to engage with both registered and unregistered service providers.

All of the administration of attending to payment of suppliers is completed for you, taking away all the stress and worry.

You are also able to negotiate with your service providers to charge less than the NDIS price guide which can stretch your funding further.

Self Managed

You attend to payment of your supplier Invoices and seek reimbursement from the NDIS.

You are required to maintain all of your own financial records in relation to funding and supports and you may be out of pocket for service provider Invoices which you have to pay for upfront whilst you are waiting on reimbursement from the NDIS.

Managing your own funding also enables you to engage with both registered and unregistered service providers.

You are also able to negotiate the cost of services with your service providers.

NDIA Managed

Your suppliers submit their Invoices direct to the NDIA for payment.

You are not able to engage the services of non-registered service providers and are limited to only using the services of registered providers.

Your service providers can only charge the amount stipulated in the NDIS Price Guide which could result in your funding being used faster than if you were to negotiate a lesser costs to stretch your funding.

Mixed Management

There is also the option to have different management options for different funding allocations. For instance, you probably would not want to have consumables as NDIA managed as most places that you would purchase consumables from would not be able to submit Invoices to the NDIA and wait for payment so for this option you would probably select plan managed or self-managed so that you pay upfront and get reimbursed, otherwise this funding would be difficult to access.

Which funding option is best for me?

The type of funding option you select will depend on your personal circumstances. Plan Management does give you the best of both worlds in that you can access both registered and unregistered providers, you can negotiate pricing (as long as it is not more than the NDIS Price Guide) and you are not out of pocket waiting for reimbursement as you could be if you were self-managed. You also do not have the burden of managing the administration of your funding as this is all taken care of for you by your own personal Plan Manager who is here to support you through your NDIS journey.  You become part of the Choice Plan Management family.

If your NDIS plan does not currently include Plan Management, you can contact your Local Area Co-Ordinator (LAC) or NDIS Representative and let them know that you would like Plan Management added to your plan.

They will then request a plan review and have plan management added in for you.

If you would like to request this change to your funding, CONTACT US and we will be able to assist you.
